Cookie Notice
Effective July 11, 2026
1. What these technologies are
Cookies are small files stored by your browser. We also use related technologies — session storage and local storage (which keep small values in your browser) and analytics tags — to make the estimator work, understand usage, and measure advertising. We refer to all of these as “cookies” below.
2. Categories we use
Strictly necessary
Needed for the estimator to function and stay secure. These keep your current session together as you move through the questions and, where a page is password-protected, remember that you unlocked it. Examples are short-lived values in your browser’s session storage; the estimator cannot work properly without them, so they are not optional.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors use the estimator (which pages, steps, and features), so we can improve it. Analytics cookies collect usage data and a randomly-assigned identifier; we do not use them to identify you by name.
Advertising attribution
To measure which marketing brings visitors, we record advertising click identifiers passed in the web address (such as Google’s gclid, Meta’s fbclid, and Microsoft’s msclkid) and campaign (UTM) tags, and we may store a first-seen marker in your browser to tell new visitors from returning ones. This is first-party attribution — we use it ourselves to understand our ads.
We do not currently run third-party advertising or remarketing pixels (for example, a Meta Pixel or Google Ads tag) on these pages. If we add advertising or measurement tags from partners such as Google or Meta in the future, they may set or read their own cookies, which under some laws can be considered “sharing” for cross-context behavioral advertising — and we will honor your opt-out choices below and update this notice.
3. Your choices
- Browser controls — most browsers let you block or delete cookies and clear local storage in their settings. Blocking strictly-necessary items may stop the estimator from working.
- Google Analytics opt-out — you can install Google’s Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
- Advertising / “sharing” opt-out — California residents (and others) can opt out of the “sharing” of information for cross-context behavioral advertising. We honor a valid Global Privacy Control (GPC) browser signal, or you can email us — see Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information.
- Industry opt-out tools — if we later add third-party advertising cookies, you can also use the Digital Advertising Alliance (optout.aboutads.info) and the Network Advertising Initiative (optout.networkadvertising.org) opt-out pages.
Cookies & storage we use
- Session storage (browser, cleared when you close the tab) — keeps your current estimate session together, remembers a page you unlocked, and holds a campaign tag for the visit.
- Local storage (browser) — a “first-seen” marker per site to tell new visitors from returning ones.
- Google Analytics —
_gaand_ga_<id>cookies (typically up to ~2 years) that hold a random analytics identifier and usage data.
4. Do Not Track
Because there is no common industry standard for “Do Not Track” browser signals, we do not respond to them; we do, however, honor the Global Privacy Control signal as described above.
5. Changes
We may update this notice as our technologies change; we will update the “Effective” date above.
